Well after breaking my leg 2 or 3 years ago (my tibia, fibula and ankle); two weeks ago, I broke my finger (during sparing, how? I don't know).

Didn't actually realise it at the time. Yes it was swollen, but it didn't really hurt (as such) but was in some discomfort. 10 days later, I wasn't able to straighten my finger still, so went to Accident and Emergency (A&E) after being turned away from my doctor's. After being told off by the emergency nurse twice, two sets of xrays, and my finger put in a splint... I now have an appointment with the fracture clinic this Monday coming to see how it's healing, and I assume what further treatment I will need...

Now I was lucky, where the break was, the bone didn't heal in place (otherwise my finger would be disfigured).

So lesson of the day, if something happens, go and get it checked out ASAP.

Sorry to hear that you broke your finger sparring. But hopefully your finger will heal much faster than your leg. Well, as they say...those are the breaks!! Sorry, couldn't help myself...again. :P

Get well soon, and when you do, the floor will still be there, eager to welcome you back.

:)

**Proof is on the floor!!!

Broke an index finger while Sparring TKD; whilst blocking a round house incorrectly from a very large opponent.

Preventative medicine; Where sparring without gloves it is advisable to use a small strong rubber band that keeps the four fingers together; a twist in the middle helps so it doesn't slip off.

Some of us prefer learning the hard way, hope your finger gets better soon,.

Sparring with a finger splint can be intimidating for some, as it looks similar to a metal claw.

Crazy accidents will happen in contact sports/activities. Do you, by chance, spar with your hands open?

Sometimes, but this time no - so I'm not sure how it happened...

Ouch...

It was funny, when the nurse stretched out my finger in order to put it into the splint, it really felt like she had me in a submission hold - got me on my knees, haha... Serves me right for waiting 10 days before seeing someone...

The White Crane System has what is called "a one finger block" it is when the arm is stretched out as a forward palm strike with the index finger pointing upwards.

The idea is that it practice, it tenses the forearm as part of the conditioning process.

It also a type of greetings gesture and used as a way to ask are you Ok; among fellow students, with a response being the same, signifiers I'm OK.

As this thread is turning in to "The one finger block club" LOL
