Why are there so many differences in belt colors among schools that teach TKD?

The classes I attend at a county recreation department use white, white/yellow, white/green, white/black, yellow, green, blue, brown, red, and black.

Have a great day!

welcome to this forum SDALLAS00...nice to have you here.

it seems, as you can see here in this thread, that with the many different organizations, styles, and schools or clubs involved with tkd many different catagories have been derived.

as with your discription, with the 3 levels of white belt, it has become very innovative and interesting not to mention colorful.

If your school is a member of the WTF the ranks go by stripes...

White - White/Yellow - Yellow - Yellow/green

and so on...

While ITF schools tend to go by fancy colors like..

White - Yellow - Orange - Green - Purple

and so on...

And if you go to a Billybob school they just make up belts and make you pay for them...

ie, Camo Belts!

Since my instructor started training at a young age, he wants to be able to offer that back to his students and has therefore adopted a system with many belts and tests jsut so kids feel like they are constantly moving up. It takes around 3 months to test for each level, so like 4-5 years for black belt.

White (you get three electic tape stripes on it before moving up)

High white

Yellow

High Yellow

Orange

High Orange

Blue

High Blue

Green

High Green

Red

High Red

Brown

High Brown

Black(if you are under 15 you get a junior black - half red half black - my instructor doesn't believe in giving young children the burden and responsibility in being a black belt...but jbb's learn and train with black belts...i think it's weird but wehatever )

I have been training for three years. I train with my three younger brothers (They have about three and a half years) and we aere all high green belts, soon to be red I think. It'll probably take around a year and a half to two years more bvecasue you have high brown for a long time )

White, Gold, Green,Blue, Red, Brown, and Black.

I'm a very dirty Brown belt. :bawling:

I know, I know, I should be a Black Belt by now, but after blowing out my meniscus (doing kata no less), having my DoJo close, then having two Titanium screws put into my right hand after a miscalculated board break, (lucky guy, huh), well, there you have it, I'm still going...with all your support that is

Training since age 37 currently 49, you do the math...

Maybe they'll have an Executive Men's Walker Division next year :bigwink: HooooHaww
