ramymensa Posted February 1, 2003 Posted February 1, 2003 It's quite a discussion Regarding your partner ... if she wanted lighter contact, she had some reasons. Maybe she was uncertain, maybe scared, bored, ill, who knows. If I was her, I would have turned my back and find anothe partner. if I were you, I would turn my back and leave. I'm not willing to work with somebody who doesn;t seem to do the things serious, but if I wanted to be more relaxed and my partner would't ease up, I'd leave. I train for myself and can tell how I want to do. It doesn't matter her previous deeds. It's the moment. And she wasn't arrogant I guess. Have you thought she could have been sick? or ... Well I don't know ... I'm puzzled World Shotokan Karate
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 1, 2003 Author Posted February 1, 2003 she was probably pissed off , cuz her technique was working against my size/bjj skill i guess you should have been there , "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
LOILOI44 Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Well you have to give me all the facts. I was under the assumption that she was the same age as you. You never said she was 27. In your original post you asked for advice. I would have handled it the same way: As far as how to deal with her, if I were you I would tell her that in you only spar as hard as your opponent does. Tell her that you felt she came at you full force, so you felt you had no choice but to return her agression. You don't have to justify your actions to me. I have to admit it would have been real tempting to floor her if she had a bad attitude. Sometimes it's good to resist the urges, that's what makes us as martial artisits different.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 2, 2003 Author Posted February 2, 2003 i train like i want to fight, this isn't a game, im not going to lower my skill/strength for anybody, i think she was just upset that i wasn't goin easy on her cuz she thought she was a princess ya i guess i should have made myself more clear, "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"

Is this a personal attitude or a MMA thing?

Is this a personal attitude or a MMA thing? Good point! That is why I am more in favor of TMA's. I feel that TMA's promote values that are important in everyday life. I'm curious, and don't take this the wrong way. I really want to know does BJJ and other "modern" martial arts have any basic philosiphy? Do they teach any values?
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 2, 2003 Author Posted February 2, 2003 kyle san LISTEN i was helping her technique the first hour of class the last 30 minutes is for sparring, thats that loiloi, not that i have found any, my class is really based on combat thats it, when i studied ninpo it was liek values and stuff, but in my bjj class its pure combatives, but in the other classes theres morals. https://www.montrealmartialarts.com check out where i train "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Kensai Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Hmm....... Lets hope not, even in that article you sent me the BJJ Sensei are very gentle with new comers. For example, if you came to my Aikido dojo, I would ripe you limb from limb unless I came down to your level. In the same way that you would make short work of me if I came to a BJJ class. But if people want to get the basics, then you have to let them learn. I think violence has no place in the dojo, only hard work, techniques and power. Just in MHO ofcourse.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 2, 2003 Author Posted February 2, 2003 kensai , sparring is sparring and she was kicking my ass, i had no choice my to use all i had, i was not picking on her, she knew what she was doin and than she got angry when i was putting up too much of a fight and she was definately used to my class because it was like her 4th time there, shootfighting and bjj are similar, shoot is karate/judo/wrestling/muaythai/ . sparring is rounds of full force grappling , my instructor doesn't like it when people go easy on each other, you have to work for a submission, i wan't goin to let her take it and plus she has plenty of basics, have you ever been to a bjj class before, the moto is , " ill go as hard as you go" and i told her that and she said fine this woman is a ***** thats it ,thats all "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
