nunopicado Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Hello peopleMy kid was doing flexibility exercises on Tuesday and did a no-no!After spreading his legs for a while, while laying on his back with his butt against the wall, he jumped on his feet just like that.Now he says his legs hurt in between his thighs!Any thoughts on what is the best way to recover?Thanks
sensei8 Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Rest is about the best. Sounds like a possible groin injury or some type of muscle strain/tear. But of course, see a doctor, if at all possible, to make sure about the injury and its cure. In my youth I was of the mindset that all I need is a bandaid or duct tape; I was so wrong on my diagnosis and cure more times than I care to remember. I hope he'll be ok!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
singularity6 Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Young kids tend to bounce back from injury a bit quicker than adults. Regardless, significant muscle strains or tears can take weeks. 5th Geup Jidokwan Tae Kwon Do/Hap Ki Do(Never officially tested in aikido, iaido or kendo)

I'd get with the CI before class and ask that your sons activities be light until he's back to 100%; a great CI can adjust a students participation while providing that student with challenges still.Give your son a high-five for me for displaying that Karate Spirit; that's the exclamation of his MA betterment!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
nunopicado Posted October 29, 2018 Author Posted October 29, 2018 Thanks, sensei8.Yes, I'll talk to our CI, he is usually the first to dial down the effort requirements whenever something is not perfect, so that will not be a problem. I'll only have to worry about the kid pushing it even if the pain comes back.It's nice to see him show so much enthusiasm about... anything.Up until April, when he began in Karate, he really only cared about video games. No sports, no outside activities! Now...Missing a Karate session would be like being grounded!

That can destroy the fun aspect of the MA. If your son can admit to himself, and understand that if he pushes himself before he's 100%, that that could end his MA career, in which he'll miss much more than just a few classes...that would be an unwarranted punishment.Good to know that his CI is cognizant about his students' well-being!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
nunopicado Posted October 29, 2018 Author Posted October 29, 2018 Yeah, he knows it, and is aware of the consequences...But since when warmed up the pain is less intense (in this particular case, at least), I hope he gives it the necessary attention.I'll keep an eye for any signs, of course.
