My point is , why is it okay to practice emptyhand forms that are designed to maim or kill , to practice with "traditional weapons " , etc... BUT GUNS ARE EVIL ? :-? :-?

Personally I dont train emptyhand forms to maim or kill, but to have fun, stay in shape, and learn some self defence. I have also not demonised guns the way you suggest. ZR440 hit the jackpot, so to speak, when he said that it was a cultural thing. Guns give me a feeling of insecurity and discomfort. It may be the oposite for you and i respect that. :karate:

:-? I plan on getting a Sig P228 9m .... (of course I am getting instruction) No, can't say I will be feeling any more insecure or discomfort. On the contrary.....

Watch out KickChicks got a gun! :o ... hmmm, wonder if they teach gun kata around here

I've trained on the 220, very nice firearm. That being said, I still find it surprising that americans can easily access pistols and assult rifles designed for police or military use.

Of course all guns can be lethal when improperly used.

Good gun , but I prefer Glocks or Springfield 1911's . :D :D :D

RB , Americans as a whole do NOT have access to assualt rifles . An actual assualt rifle is capable of firing both semi and fully automatically. For a civilian to own an assualt rifle , he / she would have to file a class 4 (?) form , have a Chief Law Enforcement Officer / CLEO sign the form okaying that individual , then send the forms to ATF for approval . That will take between 3 and 6 month's , the tax stamp cost $200.00 by the way. Assuming that all of that has gone through , the person can expect to pay at least $6,000.00 for an AK , and more for an M-16.

I work in a gunshop currently , have a gunsmithing degree , and love to shoot , but if you still doubt me , please visit ATF'S website or call them.

Handguns are normally designed for a wide range of uses including self defense , which what most civilians buy them for , just like most civilians who train in MA do so for self defense reasons. :D :) :)

ak47.....i don't mean to offend, but he never said guns were evil....it appears to me that he just meant that he, as a martial artist where up-close and personal combat is practiced, thought guns were "for wimps" if you will. its not to say that in wars they shouldn't be used to provide cleaner kills, etc (although killing in general is wrong), but you would think that people with grievances who felt the need for violence would at least use things that required more skill that point-and-pull the trigger......

not to say that guns don't require skill, but any moron with a steady arm can hurt someone with one.

just my piece

HMMMM , that's like saying any moron who can throw a decent punch or kick can hurt someone.

My point is this , if you don't want a gun , fine , just don't bash those who do .

You are both right. However, guns are easier to fight with than trying to duke it out in the streets. It takes less skill to point and squeeze than box the other person's face off. That's why guns are popular with law breaking idiots.

It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

Why would you need kata to shoot a gun. Load, cock, aim fire.
