Alan Armstrong
Optimum body positioning, putting yourself in good position while the opponent is in a bad one.How much of your martial art training is focused on optimizing body positioning?Being in the right place at the right time, can have a great advantage over an opponent, have you developed this area with ease and confidence when sparring? sensei8
Body positioning is everything, especially in Shindokan. Our brand of Tuite as well as our Close Ranges, as well as in our Tegumi, greatly depends on having an optimizing body position; it's the difference in losing and winning an advantage. After 53 years in Shindokan, I believe that I've developed this area with ease and confidence across the board in sparring and the like. **Proof is on the floor!!! Alan Armstrong
You deserve an honorable mention sensei8.A great lesson for new students. Question: How is it, that I can always hit you at will and you cannot hit me when sparring?Answer: Because when you try to strike me, I will always be in a position to hit you. Alan Armstrong
I'm surprised sensei8 at the lack of interest about this important topic and disappointed there are not more people posting their views. What would a sniper with a rifle be without positioning? Just a person with a rifle perhaps! In the work place, looking for a better position to get higher pay.In marketing, positioning the product to stand out among the competition.Bruce Lee positioned himself, as the top martial art movie actor.Or position oneself between a rock and a hard place, with not enough room to change your mind; such as being in a headlock.Point being, that positioning is very important to understand and practice at work or at play.Understanding positioning can make the difference between earning more income to being cornered by an opponent, which are just a few examples of many.Optimum body positioning, is where you are better off being in, because all the other alternatives will always be second best. Bulltahr
Having just been owned on Friday night sparring session, because of this very subject. Tells me how far I have yet to go...........My footwork may be OK, but counter positioning needs a LOT of work. MatsuShinshii
Body positioning is very important. As Sensei8 stated it is involved in everything we do. Getting outside of your opponents path and positioning yourself to be able to counter is the key in Shuri-te style arts. Circular movement over linear in some cases and a combination in the rest. The person who succeeds is not the one who holds back, fearing failure, nor the one who never fails-but the one who moves on in spite of failure. Charles R. Alan Armstrong
Here is a little trick from the Wing Chun camp.Very much worthwhile borrowing, no matter your system, style or discipline. With practice, the next level "Flow state" when it all comes together intuitively.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b3L39mgwVGI
