Eye of the Tiger Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Just wandering what are the best foods to help put on weight. I know that drinking a gallon of milk a day will help but I'm just asking what are the best foods. I'm not looking for size as opposed to being heavier but certainly putting on a little more muscle mas won't hurt either. Again not fat but weight and none of that creatine krap, I'm not a body builder its just a don't like being thrown around so easily at a weight of just 10 stone.
Shootfighter Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 just eat as much as you can. i eat 6 small meals a day (sometimes 7) doing that will help you from getting sick due to eating too much at once. i know what you mean about wanting to put on some weight. im currently trying to reach 205 lbs. how much is 10 stone in pounds? im guessing 100 lbs. but i dont know.
Northren Ogre Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Try to eat 1 gram of protien for every pound of body weight if you are trying to gain some nice lean muscle. Using a protein supplement to help out with this makes life a lot easier. Good lean protein sources for your meals are chicken, egg whites, tuna, venison, and some cuts of red meat, like eye of round steak. As for a protein supplement I would reccomend either Designer Protien or EAS Myoplex lite. Both pack lots of protein and keep your carb intake down. http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
Jack Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Hello Eye of the tiger - seems we are both in the same boat for once! For weight gain, here are some of the essential basics.. You have to eat more calories than you burn, creating a calorie excess, so excess calories can be used for building muscle. You are going to gain a little bit of fat with that muscle - but the fat can be minimised with proper training. You are going to have to get a consistent meal plan and stick to it - Start with 2800 calories a day and if you are not gaining weight up by 200 calories every week until you are. To minimise fat gain, by speeding up metabolism, eat every 2-3 hours. Drink a lot of water, you are going to need it to keep your liver healthy with the increased protein intake. Here are some foods you should get Complex carbs: Oats, Wheats, Breads(pref. wholemeal) Pasta (pref. wholemeal) rice, pasta Protein: Meats and fish (Chicken, tuna, steak, and turkey are excellent choices!) Simple carbs: best for first thing in morning or after a training session - fruits, fruit juices, candy(best to avoid candy to avoid fat gain though) Fats: Best to come from your meats, some from peanut butter is good though, and you can buy flax oil to drink - its a source of healthy fat vital to keeping the body in top shape! The basics of gaining weight are to.. Workout hard Eat big, eat clean Rest lots Stick with it and give it time Best of luck to you! I doubt you will gain as much mass with bodyweight exercises as you will with hypertrophy-specific weight training, but with the above nutrition you should gain somewhat! Eye of the Tiger Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 I have to agrre with you there since bw exercises require a lot more muscular endurance as well as strengh so you tend to be lean and muscular as opposed to the weight lifters strengh only quality. But then again Matt Furey is huge abd he said its not the routine that makes you big its how much you eat. But I'm not entirely shure. But I do do a form of weight training. Remember I use the chi sho because it strenghens the movements which are uesed in karate.
