Hey brothers! I'm 3rd kyu on shotokan karate. (4 years of martial arts+)

I love my classes, hard work, a lot of partner work, kumite.

The main problem that there is no punching bag in DOJO.

Sure we have sand bags, makiwaras where you can train your technique and stronger your fist.

There was a punching bag couple months ago until some black belt hit it so hard that it fell out from the construction. I remember how after hard training me and my buddy used to spend like 30 mins on bag each time practicing combinations and powerful kicks. From that time no punching bag here. I can't practice my combinations and very powerful hits.

What to do? I'm really afraid that my kicking and punching game strength is not on point and when I will need to use my karate skills on street there won't be any effect.

Help?[/u]

I'm a 1st kyu and our heavy bag at the dojo is rarely used because it hangs from metal rafters in a commercial building that rattle the whole roof.

We do have several BOBS and Wave Masters. I do have a heavy bag and speed bag in my garage that I use now and then.

I concentrate on speed and technique mainly so heavy bags aren't always needed. I do a lot of squats and core work. I'm one of the more powerful kickers and strikers. The point is: Power comes from good technique. I'd rather try to kick smaller targets with accuracy because it takes more technique.

Sparring is honesty the rest is art.

Welcome to the forum, gunner. I saw a few of your other posts and it's obvious that you have some quality MA experience. Please drop by the introduction section of the forum and properly introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your experience.

Same as JR137 welcome to the forum, i spotted a few of your posts and have liked what you've had to say so far. Also Gunner what do you mean by the wavemaster? I don't think i've seen it before or called it like that previously, but I know what BOB is though!

I like using Punching Bags to work on power techniques, but for me I have a preference for working with partners because they will block in various ways the techniques I throw, in other words the unpredictability of it and that is what Punching Bags doesn't give me.

For me technique at the end of the day is the number 1 thing to do before anything else. I like delivering brutal kicks and strikes but have injured myself due to incorrect technique.

Iskrax often speed and power are developed over time, but in relation to self defence on the street you may already be on point because of the impact and skills you've learnt in the Dojo. I've been attacked a number of times (mostly on Public Transport) and how hard I hit was more than sufficient.
