I was thinking of all of side benefits & things about the experience of MA that I enjoy apart from the kicks, punches, joint locks, throws, etc. of MA. Things like" The camaraderie of training partners, stretching, wearing a uniform, the different gear for training, the philosophy in the Arts, the history of them, etc.

What are the things, apart from the techniques of your Art that love about it? There are no right or wrong answers. Add as many as apply for you.

The thing I love most about my art isn't anything tangible, its the feeling I get from training, turning up to the dojo leaving all outside problems at the door, and forgetting about all the worries of the world.

Excellent!! Leaving your shoes at the door so you don't walk in with your problems. :)

You beat me to it. For that hour or so, there's no kids whining, no wife nagging, no boss being unreasonable, no bills that need to be paid, and so on. It's pretty hard to think about anything other than the punch that's coming at my stomach or the kick that's coming at my head.

My CI said his brother used to call it therapy. I agree; it's therapy from the outside world.

And there's the feeling I get watching my daughter train. Watching her handle her successes and failures the right way is priceless.

Great topic IcemanSK.

It sounds mushy, but for me it's the camaraderie and the fact that everyone is working to the same goal. Everyone just happens to be at different points in their journey. Every group of martial artists I've ever trained with has had this great team spirit.

I have always enjoyed history, mostly 20th century Anglo-European, but recently I have been branching out. I also enjoy the exercise, and it helps to fulfill my need for a little violence in my life.

I know this opinion isn't universally shared, but I kinda like the different colored belts. It gives people very clear goals to work towards as they progress and they receive a very visually and tangible symbol of that progress. This is especially good for kids, but people downplay the positive effects things like this can have on the self-confidence of adults, as well.

Now a days, it's the camaraderie, the social aspects and health benefits :)
