Titanium
I personally always somehow felt that it was somewhat odd to "register" one's grade with a governing body. Skill and progress are individual and the only approval or recognition that are really meaningful are from one's instructor.Very true. “Spirit first, technique second.” – Gichin Funakoshi
sensei8
Spartacus Maximus, Judodad_karateson, Titanium, JR 137, and The Pred I thank you, one and all. Solid points, all; some made me roflmbo and some made me pause, but, each post made me think!!The marketing aspect is one thing, but the blatant, and possibly deserving so, way they sit on their throne on high preaching as to what is right and what is wrong just sits in my throat; difficult to swallow when it's constantly being shoved down my throat. Not yesterday, not today, and not tomorrow, I/we of the SKKA have no desire to ever apply to any governing body for any reason(s)...EVER!!Thank you for allowing me to rant and get this off my chest. Ever Greg, our Kancho, asked me..."Why do you care what they or others thinks??" I suppose, I'm just stupid!! **Proof is on the floor!!!

Has anyone in the history of the SKKA left you guys and started their own system not under the SKKA hombu banner? To my knowledge...nope!! We've expelled the San Dai-Soke for cause, but he's not surfaced in that regard as of yet, albeit, we're surprised of that, and we expect him to do that very thing. If he or anyone else has, well, it's not came to our attention, as of yet. The SKKA might only be interested if the Shindokan shield was being used without the explicit written permission from the SKKA! They can start a system all they want, and teach Shindokan all they want under their own banner, just as long as they're not using the Shindokan shield. Just look at the avatar to the left, under the user name...that's the Shindokan Shield, of which I've proprietary rights to through my office as Kaicho of the SKKA, as granted by, and through, the SKKA. Just curious, but, why do you ask, The Pred?? Edited September 8, 2015 by sensei8 **Proof is on the floor!!!

I thought that you might have some information regarding the Shindokan Shield being used elsewhere!! Aforementioned, we're on a close lookout for the San Dai-Soke to do that very thing. His knowledge about Shindokan is solid across the board, without reservation, both historical, as well as technical, but that still gives him no rights to the Shindokan Shield. You know what, I think I need to call our Legal Team and make sure that the Shindokan Shield can't be used by the San Dai-Soke. After all, he's still in possession of some certain sensitive documentations when he closed the first Hombu. **Proof is on the floor!!!

Nidan Melbourne
I understand they would want a register of all Dan Graded students. But why does it have to be approved by the JKF or from Okinawa? My club is not and has never been part of any governing body originating from there. We acknowledge that Okinawa is the historical birthplace of karate. From my understanding in Australia, you can register yourself once you attain a Dan Grading and be 'registered' in a way. But it is more of recognition of grade than anything. The only person at my club that I believe that has any 'recognition of grade' from any governing body is my sensei with my national federation. To some, a CONFIRMED from Okinawa carries more weight than from somewhere/someone else. **Proof is on the floor!!!
DWx
Honestly Bob, why does it bother you what someone else does? It shouldn't have any impact on your day-to-day training or teaching.I can see what they're trying to do. And can see a benefit from it. Collating and cataloguing all those certifications in one place makes it easy for a prospective student to check out people's lineage. (Though JR 137 's earlier point about data collection for marketing is also true). It's useful if you want to join or people are searching for you on there, but its also no big deal if your not on there either. As I said above, it doesn't change what you train or teach. Ps can someone point out where it says JKA or Okinawan only? As the registration form lets you put in anything.
