Azuolas Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Hey there,For some time I was wondering which karate gi to buy for kumite tournaments and I decided to go with Arawaza onyx evolution. I already bought one which was size 195 or 6 1/2, but it is too big for me and I am not sure with which size should I go now. My height is 187cm/6feet 1 inch and I weight around 88kg/194 pounds. Which size should I go with (because mos of competitions do not let your karate gi cover your wrists) and does this karate gi shrink?
Nidan Melbourne Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I'm not too sure about shrinkage. But if you happen to get one too big you can go to a alteration store and get it altered. As I got a Seishin Gi (it is amazing and feels amazing!) and the pants were too long and had it altered. I am an active competitor myself so my gi has to conform to the WKF Rules. Maybe stick to the the sizing you have for your gi that is too big. As it will allow movement, weight gain/loss etc.
Azuolas Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Maybe someone who have Arawaza karate gi can give some advice too?As for Seishin gi, it might be good but it is more suited for kata competitions where I excel is kumite.
nyramat911 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hi there,I'm 5'5" and about 140lbs, and I have an Arawaza Crystal in a size 4. It's a little small, given that the Arawaza size chart says I should have a 4.5, but fits well enough for kata competition. however, Kumite gis (such as the Onyx) fit a lot looser and generally have longer jackets, arms and legs than kata gis.Kumite gis don't generally shrink, so your best option is to take them to a clothing alteration place and have them take it up for you. Sorry that I can't be more helpful. It's not about the medals you win, it's about how much you improve.
wayneshin Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I have many Arawaza including 2 Onyx Evolution. They do not shrink. I am approx 184cm and 94kg. I wear a Size 6 (190). I do not compete but coach extensively under WKF rules. My gi is a good lentgh for my legs but perhaps 1 or 2 centimtres too long in the arms (It goes just past the bend on my wrist.) You are slightly taller than me so Size 6 (190) might be OK for you.
