three60roundhouse Posted October 29, 2002 Posted October 29, 2002 For someone who is about 5'6, 118 pounds, around how many calories should be consumed a day? I'm a girl, I run between 7-11 miles a week, depending on what kind of mood I'm in (usually do 2-2.5 miles a run, it's just a matter of how many times a week), I train in tae kwon do two days a week, and take three short (45-60 minute) BJJ classes a week. Thanks. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
KickChick Posted October 30, 2002 Posted October 30, 2002 I will point you into the direction of an excellant web site in which you can fill out a personal profile that can determine all sorts of different fitness and nuttritional info especially for "you". Go to http://www.fitwatch.com/ and then go to FitWatch Profile under the drag down under Home .... fill that out and then go here..... Under Nutrition (Quick Calcs) Total Calories Needs http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/tdcn.html This is a really neat site... have fun!
three60roundhouse Posted October 30, 2002 Author Posted October 30, 2002 Wow that seems like a lot of calories for one day! It gave me over 2000...I consume at most 1400 a day, and I feel great. That's a little strange. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!

shotochem Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Hey guys, I guess I can have an extra 700+ calories a day??? The site says Im overweight yet I do not consume nearly the amount of calories suggested??? I guess it doesnt take into account muscle mass... Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
Jack Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Most of these calculators will assume that most extra weight is fat, not muscle. If it says you're overweight for your height, but you are well-built and reasonably lean, I wouldn't worry. And yes its believable you can eat over 2000 calories a day three60, if I eat any less than 3000 I start to lose weight, and I'm only 140lbs LOL! Just make sure you get those calories from clean sources! JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com

Jack, you are a lucky guy Im am not fat but not skinny Im somewhere in between. I usually target 2000-2200 cal a day max to maintain my weight. I dont quite have that 6pack yet but its a lot better than the keg I used to carry Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
KickChick Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 You have to bear in mind that everyone's metabolism is different! There are three different ways that your body uses energy ...basal metabolic rate, energy expended during physical activity, and the thermic effect of food. These are the most accurate ways of determining how many calories your body requires each day. Like the site I listed .... they seem to be using the "quick & easy" way to attain how many calories you need with regards to how active you are. For sedentary people: Weight x 14 = estimated cal/day For moderately active people: Weight x 17 = estimated cal/day For active people: Weight x 20 = estimated cal/day
