Nidan Melbourne Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 every single person has a different bunkai to each kata. But in relation to the dojo each is different and how they are supposed to be done. I know my bunkai for some kata at my dojo is different to the goju school around the block. But a persons kyogi (basically it is your own bunkai for each technique in a kata) is your own
Kusotare Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Doesn't the fact that you have "your" bunkai (as opposed to the goju's school round the block) - make what you do a set piece?K Usque ad mortem bibendum!
AlbanyDude Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Thanks for the info, and I'm going to check out that "The Way of Kata" book. At this point, as a white belt, I know about zilch. That being said, what I did pick up on pretty quick in class was that my time spent blocking leads to their time relentlessly hitting. I just needed a place to start understanding why that is, and how I can better apply what I'm learning.
