bitestones Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I wonder is it allowed to use Judo Gi in Kyokushin Karate? I heard it is better for grappling. Last time my Sensei accidentally teared my Karate Gi when throwing.
Nidan Melbourne Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 thats always awkward when your gi rips when throwing or the like. in BJJ my pants have ripped a few times before. Karate the same thing has happened but the good things was I was wearing skins both times. I think it should be fine in the dojo for you, but I don't know about competitions
yamesu Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 You could of course get a heavy canvas gi, they are far less prone to ripping and already have the kanji stitched in. I personally do not like them however, that is simply personal preference.I would ask your instructor what his/her take is on it. "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children."
Lupin1 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I would never want to wear my judo gi to a karate class. The thing is like a horse blanket-- thick, rough and HOT. I'm not sure how much physical conditioning you do in your class, but I'd probably pass out after half an hour in a judo top (I've worn the bottoms before though-- they're just like heavy karate gi pants with a bit of reinforcement in the crotch and knees).
sensei8 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I agree with yamesu...Speak with your instructor. Nonetheless, what you train in at home is your business, but what you wear in his/her dojo, that's for your instructor to say. **Proof is on the floor!!!
