Old belts

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've seen belt display racks out there, curious if there are any outside the box ideas for what to do with old belts? Would love to learn or think of something cool, fun, or at least memorable to do with them...

Well, if you have lots of wall space, you could frame each certificate for each belt, and mount the belt below each frame. But that would take quite a bit of wall space.

You could also minimize that, and just have all the belts hanging below the certificate of your current rank, having the lowest rank belt at the bottom, leading up to your current rank, with your current rank certificate above them.

I do like Century's new belt display that's akin to a clear cylinder in which ones old belts are placed into with the lowest rank at the bottom. As belts are "retired", they're placed into the cylinder on top of the rank before that.

Helps to save space and keeps belts "clean" from dust. Certs can be like Brian suggests over the cylinder; either the most recent or all. Problem for those in Shindokan is that certificates are awarded not until 6th Kyu/Green.

Funny, I just keep my old belts in a bag (apart from my black belt and midnight blue belt), I let others use my old belts when they forget theirs :)

Despite a lot of thoughts of putting them in a belt rack of some sort, they're all in a box in my office. I have all my BB certificates on the wall, however.

One of these days I'll get a belt rack. This is the one I like:

Thanks guys !!!

Cool ideas. I looked up the cylinder thingy and it's pretty cool.

I also like the one where they're kept in a bag and shared with those who forget their belt. Definitely cool and outside the box for sure. I actually like that a lot !!!

I have a detached garage that I've converted to a training studio for me and my kids. We're the only ones that use the space. The idea is for us to have these displays on the wall with an organic feel and to bring a sense of color into the space. Less neat and tidy and more lush and colorful. By the way, please don't get me wrong, it's not about showing off because we're the only ones that use the space. It's more about personalizing a very personal space.

I've been thinking about making a display that has a frame at top with a bar below the frame, parallel to the frame, where old belts can be hung like neck ties.

Hmmm....maybe I use the old belts to create a colorful window treatment. Nah! That wouldn't be right!! Please keep ideas coming if you have more !!!

I've no belt displays of my own. Old belts are to me, just old belts; I usually discard them. Although, I've not received a new belt in so long through promotions, I've forgotten what that feels like.

I used to return them so they could be used if someone forgot their belt or graded last minute if there were none in stock. We also used them for resistance training.

To me the belt is a reflection of the stage you are at in your training, once you move on then the belt is "used" and no longer valid, just like throwing out old clothes that no longer fit.

Making a shrine to your training journey is fine if you like that sort of thing but this kind of show seems like an ego problem to me. IMHO....

I wish i still kept many of my old belts. Alas I was young and didn't think of keeping them.

But hey what can I do, lesson learnt!
