ad Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 so im on the way of perfecting that six pack with your guys advice you mentioned using cardio and i thought running could the best place to do some cardio on a treadmill, but its so damn boriiiiiiiing, honestly it is. i have a punch bag and i wondered if that will increase my cardio work out, and if so help loose weight, i mean i enjoy using the bag, but is it as effective to loose weight?? any other ideas of fun cardio Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
LeaF Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 you could skip rope, I find that as a good way to work on cardio and agility Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. ZeRo Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 yeh jump ropes can be fun. try doin cross overs and stuff like that, makes them a tiny bit more fun.
chh Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 I can't stand the boredom of the treadmill either, but I do enjoy running outside on trails. If you have access to a swimming pool that always really good. Oh, and I find racquetball great for working on cardio and agility, and since it's a fun game it doesn't seem like a workout at all!
KickChick Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 As most of you know I teach a cardio kickbox class and I'm not being partial but I find that to be the most fun plus beneficial to my overall performance in TKD. Our classes are fun by just having a great bunch of people to work out with and some good loud pumping tunes. If you can find something like this class in your area .... try it out! I have some routines with fun combos you can do on your own at home with music and a heavy bag with gloves or without (but then youre not getting the resistance training together with the cardio benefits). I have emailed them to a few people here! Many sports like as chh mentioned are fun and offer cardio benefits ... raquet ball, inline skating, cardio, skiing, snowboarding, biking, tennis, basketball etc. etc. The threadmill watching tv or with tunes makes it less boring.
Red J Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Have you ever done a circuit? You could do the treadmill for 5 minutes, then go to the bag for 5, then do some calestenics for 5, jump rope for 5, do a kata or forms, etc. It will break up the boredom of just doing the treadmill. You can really do anything that you want as long as you keep your heart going. I like to do countdowns. You start by doing 15 jumping jacks, 15 pushups, 15 situps, and start again by doing 14 of each, until you get down to one. I then do basic punches and kicks, and move into forms. Sometimes I add the jump rope. I used to have a bag which really made it fun. I'm thinking about getting one soon. Other days I ride my bike outside on a 15 mile loop or do the stair climber while I watch an interesting TV show. I hope this helps. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
ad Posted October 12, 2002 Author Posted October 12, 2002 ive had some good replys, though some of things suggested are slightly inpractical for me, i really dont have the time to leave my house and do cardio kickboxing, though its a good idea to might try some shadow boxing at home, kickchick i think you mentioned something about using the punch bag which i just didnt quite understand, something about the absence of resistance and no cardio benefits, though i thought this what a punch bag DOES give u , Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
rabid hamster Posted October 12, 2002 Posted October 12, 2002 jump rope watching TV. It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.

Sorry if I sounded confusing to you.
ad Posted October 13, 2002 Author Posted October 13, 2002 would you say that a punch bag gives you more of a cardio workout then running on a treadmill? Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
