Wastelander
I've heard of it happening, from time to time. My Sensei was actually given an honorary Godan certificate by a man that he highly respected before that man passed away. He keeps that certificate in a frame at home, but doesn't claim that rank, or really even tell people about it. Since he didn't test for it, he doesn't consider himself a Godan. sensei8
I'm wondering if any company or organization has ever received an honorary BB, not an individual. I'm aware of individuals receiving an honorary BB. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Zaine
I consider my BB from American Street Karate honorary. The GM sat on the testing board for my Shorin Ryu BB and said that I also met the requirements for BB in his system so he wrote me a certificate and awarded me a BB. sensei8
Company OR Organization? Like, for example, has a public/private school ever received one? Has a Fire Company ever received one? So on and so forth. Not awarded one, but received one. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Wastelander
Ahh, sorry, I missed that part. I've never heard of an organization being awarded an honorary rank. I'm honestly not sure how that would even work? Nidan Melbourne
I haven't ever heard of anyone or any organisation to have received an honorary rank. My sensei on the other hand has witnissed a few people receiving a honorary promotion to hachidan (8th Dan), but they don't feel like they deserve it. wagnerk
An organisation? No, never heard of one receiving one. However I have heard about organisations that have received a "Certificate of Appreciation" for their work towards the martial arts Tang Soo Do: 3rd Dan '18Shotokan Karate: 2nd Dan '
Gazrichards
A club near to me awarded an honorary black belt to the women that did their secretarial work. She is the mother of one of the dan grades and had helped out for about 15 years. The day I found out that org went even further down in my estimation, what's wrong with a bunch of flowers? And how did the 1st kyus in the club feel that she got "black belt" for stamping some licence books?
