I just want to know if you are able to do grading without fighting ?!! as I might have a bit of problem with fighting discussed in a previous thread : http://www.karateforums.com/can-you-spar-with-only-1-leg-vt46322.html

I will check with my sensei soon but I want to know your opinions regarding this issue before I discuss it with him. :D

In kyokushin, my past and present dojos would not let anyone grade without sparring.

In some cases your Sensei might let you do the technical parts of the grading and complete the sparring portion later?

Might be worth checking with your instructor.

I'm required to Spar for my next grading. 6th Kyu.

Its really more of a demonstration of control of your techniques against a live oponent than a sparring session I think though.

Dont worry about it too much though, the other person will probably be as nervous as you are.

I am not worried about sparring itself, I am worried about my left ankle injury that might not allow me to spar !

Hopefully, you will not be required to spar on your first few gradings. This is something you can find out by speaking with your instructor.

I'm sure if your instructor has seen you sparring previously and you have demonstrated in the Dojo that you are proficient in the techniques then allowances can be made.

Not sure that this will help, as it likely differs dojo to dojo, but I know that another person who recently graded for yellow belt at my dojo didn't have to spar. However, we don't even start sparring until yellow. Not sure what happens after that though.

Update once you've spoken to your sensei. I'm curious to hear what you're told.

Solid post as well as solid advice. This should be not a problem with your sensei. However, the sparring portion shouldn't take you into the next testing cycle. If it does, I'd hold off on your next testing cycle until the one after that.

Btw, how's your ankle doing today?

:)
