Hello guys,

I know there are couple of threads discussed the good books to read on the forum before, but today I need your advice to help me choosing one of the following books to read (this will be my first karate book to read):

1- The Twenty Guiding Principles of Karate

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/The-Twenty-Guiding-Principles-of-Karate-NEW-/301059633047?pt=AU_Books_Textbooks&hash=item46188d6f97&_uhb=1

This is the only one of the group I have read, so its really the only one I can recommend. :) But, I'm sure any one of them would be worth while reading.

hehe!

Well with your chosen art of Kyokushinkai Karate I'd offer you look into things by Sosai Oyama himself initially, get to grips with his teachings.

He also wrote:

Advanced Karate (Rare as books go and will cost you a small fortune!)

&

What is karate

&

Vital karate

(I have a copy of this one, from a market stall, cost me 50p- about 30c at the time)

His book "This is Karate" is a good read a nice insight to how he taught and observed the body and how it works and so on in a fight!

If you get a book get this one, as to other reads any of the list you offer is well worth a read, of that have no doubt.

Perhaps someday I'll be able to drop some dough on these titles. After all, I don't have any books on Kyokushin...must fix that issue!

Then allow me to direct you to 'this is karate' & 'Vital karate', both well worth the investment!

If you like these and have that sort of spare cash then sure go after 'Advanced Karate'.

Enjoy!

...here is a book for you to take a look at.

Sensai came into the dojo the other day with a pile of this book for us, he'd been to see the auther and had asked he sign them for us!

I've just finished reading my copy, put simply a very clear view of Kyokushin karate and knockdown competition as seen through the author as he grew and developed back in the old days here in the UK!

'The Way of Knockdown'

"I was a competitor, not a fighter. A rescuer, not a warrior.

But I got a lot from both and enjoy writing about those experiences, good and bad.

Next project is a Knockdown coaching book.

Then some Fire & Rescue stories, where out of respect for the victims I will portray 'examples' of rescue work rather than write about specific incidents.

Thank you for your support."
