hiddendragon98 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I wrestled a year in junior high and almost a year in highschool but really really disliked it so i quit. But i study isshinryu and jujitsu and plan to continue training then in another year or two maybe train in some muay thai or kickboxing until im 18.Anyway i want to try to fight in the cage when i get old enough but ive heard the way the training and fights are a lot like wrestling in any case i wouldnt want to do mma.so i want to ask do you think i would like mma? And am i wrong about it being like wrestling? "walk on"-Bruce Lee
Wastelander Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Wrestling is a big part of MMA, these days, but MMA is not wrestling. I did wrestling in Junior High and absolutely hated it, but that was because of the other people on the team and the coaches, more than anything else. In my MMA fight, I actually fought a wrestler and got taken down early in the first round, but after that there really wasn't a whole lot of wrestling going on. Every fight is different, and the only way to know how you feel about it is to try it. sensei8 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 From your post...I'd say that you'd not like MMA. And I'm with Wastelander and what he says about wrestling.Try it!! You might or might not like it; it's up to you. **Proof is on the floor!!!
wagnerk Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I agree with sensei8 & Wastelander, if you're interested in it, try it and find out.MMA isn't for everyone but if you're questioning on whether or not you would/wouldn't like it, the only way is to experience it Tang Soo Do: 3rd Dan '18Shotokan Karate: 2nd Dan '04
bushido_man96 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 The training regimen might be a lot like Wrestling's, with lots of drilling and conditioning. So if you don't like that approach to training, then you may not like MMA training. But, as the others have mentioned, you will never know until you try! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
tallgeese Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I'll concur with everyone else. Don't jump in talking about taking a fight. Just show up to the general class, not the fighter's time, and start training. See what happens with the day to day grind of just training at a normal person pace. this will really tell you if you like it enough to go further. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww

That's what happens in many styles of the MA, they're shocked into thinking uncomfortable thoughts. This curbs their ability to learn. One sees the fight training and thinks they're doomed, when they're not. It's the ...forest for the trees thing. **Proof is on the floor!!!
TheGrim123321 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Alot of MMA is on the ground but its everybodys game. I've seen fights that didnt touch the ground and i've seen fights that ended in 2 minutes or so from an early arm bar. "You don't buy a Black Belt, You become a Black Belt." - My Sensei
Titanium Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I'd certainly have a go at MMA and see what you think. “Spirit first, technique second.” – Gichin Funakoshi
TJ-Jitsu Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Cant believe I missed this post...You've just as much likelyhood of liking vs not liking. MMA is just a ruleset, so you cant say wrestling is any more mma than boxing. It would be appropriate to say that you'd have to be familiar with the ground game, or perhaps better to say it'd be in your best interest.Heres the kicker though- it really all depends on who your opponent is. Youve got a wide range of opponents to choose from and potential to get a good fight. Like others have said, you'll do best just going to the school and trying it out for about a month. You'll know by then.
