Bretty101 Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Hi all, Just wanted to know if it's possible to condition my Solar Plexus? I can handle getting hit in most places, but if i get caught on the Solar Plexus it hurts so much!!! and doing a million sit ups doesn't seem to help. Do you get used to it? What is your solar plexus? a muscle? Cheers Bretty
Eye of the Tiger Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Its good to condition your abdomen which I think might be your solar plexus, well its in the same area. Situps will strenghen your abdomen but it wont toughen it. The only way to toughen your abdomen is to toughen the abdomen! Basically just use anything to hit your abdomen. I personally iuse a lot of the traditional methods of fitness in Goju Ryu and one of them to toughen the body is bamboo sticks. Basically just get a few bamboo sticks like 8 or something like that and tie then together with duck tape. The you basically hit your abdomen with the sticks first starting lightly and then slowly hitting harder. In time your abdome will just keep getting tougher and tougher, until you can start using objects like cars rolling over you but you better leave that to the qi kong masters. Basically anything to toughen the abdomen but make sure it will 'make' the abdomen tougher not 'break' it. hope this helps.
LeaF Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 your solar plexis are actually above your abdomen.... I do not believe sits ups actually assist this area. To the best of my knowledge I do not think your solar plexis are a musle, but rather hmm not sure seems to be a weak point ie temple. I really don't know how to help you some striking of the region will help a little, but it does not seem to make a large difference. I am rather curious to see what methods come up.... EOTT I do not think hitting them with bamboo sticks is the answer, although that sounds like an interesting method of training the abs. I pefer having a partner kick my abs though, that way he strenghtens his kick and I strenghten my abs Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. chh Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 As part of our usual warm-ups at my dojo we lay on our backs and do chin-to-chest lifts, 30 or more done slowly without letting your head rest between lifts. Sensei constantly reminds us to keep the solar plexus as tight as possible the entire time, and based on the way my body feels by the time I get to 30 or 40 I'm guessing this is a great way to strengthen that area. You can greatly intensify the exercise by striking your solar plexus with your fists as your chin reaches your chest, very good conditioning. We also regularly pair up and exchange punches or kicks to the solar plexus. From dictionary.com:Solar Plexus The large network of sympathetic nerves and ganglia located in the peritoneal cavity behind the stomach and having branching tracts that supply nerves to the abdominal viscera.
KickChick Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 A blow to the solar plexus, which is a nerve center in the abdomen, is responsible for many a knockout in the ring. A strike put the solar plexus temporarily out of service, short-circuiting the nervous system. Usually, nerve function is restored within a few minutes. I've been told that if this happens to you while sparring, rest until you feel normal and then pick up where you left off. What you need to work on is breathing techniques and how to expel your breath when taking a hit while contracting the abdominals..... this will lessen the pain of the impact somewhat.
