Safroot Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Hello,Sorry Guys I am asking many questions about different styles but I don't know much about Karate so I need your experience to help me deciding which style to practice. I found a school doing "Kyokushin Karate". Anyone know anything about this style. They are claiming on their website that it's known as "THE STRONGEST KARATE" ?!!!!website is : http://www.cujickyokushin.com/kyokushinkarate.phpI appreciate your opinions Thank you so much in advance "The Martial Arts begin with a point and end in a circle." wagnerk Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Kyokushin Karate is one of the full contact styles of karate out there (however they also practice "semi-contact" and "clicker", which is their version of light contact).Compared to a lot of different styles of karate, this style is a lot more physically demanding. A couple of clips that you may want to view would be: Coming from a Shotokan and Freestyle karate background (I tried Kyokushin karate after I gained my dan grades in those arts, before I started TSD), I found Kyokushin a bit harder on the day to day training, however sparring I found a lot harder. Not saying that I couldn't keep up (a lot of the techniques are either the same or similar), but am saying that I wouldn't want to go up against the same rank in a competition (saying that, that was about 8 years ago, I was younger - now a days not sure ).Kyokushin also does the 100 man kumite event, something which I believe no other style has. Now if this isn't enough for you, not sure what would be... Tang Soo Do: 3rd Dan '18Shotokan Karate: 2nd Dan '04
Harkon72 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Kaiyokoshinkai is one of the most highly respected styles in the world. They advocate full contact sparring with minimal protection. At worst; it's brutal. At best it's a true test of Karatedo. In my opinion it's a young man's style as injuries there are common. Look to the far mountain and see all.
Safroot Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Thank you so much for such useful info and videos Wagnerk and Harkon72 , really appreciate it "The Martial Arts begin with a point and end in a circle." Sosai Mas Oyama founder of Kyokushin Karate.
Zaine Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 To claim that something is the "WORLD'S STRONGEST KARATE" is puffery. I don't think any karate is the world's strongest (although I have some opinions as to which is the weakest but that is neither here nor there). That being said, Kyokushin is a legit system and I have never been disappointed by it's performance. Just like any system it will have bad instructors and good ones and I urge you to try it out so that you can see what you think. Afterwards post your thoughts here. sensei8 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Great posts on the subject so far!!Kyokushinkai is known as a "hard" style. By that I mean, it's in your face. MA styles are either "soft" or "hard", and by and by, the aggressiveness of the style does cause a high student turnover rate for said reason...it's in your face.Let your fingers roam thru the web to learn more about the style, and in that, if you've a school nearby to where you live, I'd encourage you to visit it, not once, but many, many times to get a complete understanding. And if even possible, take a free trail lesson because nothing from the seats does the same as when ones on the floor!!It's a great style, imho, but it's not for everyone, as I've already mentioned.Good luck in your search!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
brickshooter Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I think that one of the problems with "The Strongest Karate" is that some people interpreted as the "best" Karate system. It's actually interpreted as the "strongest." As in one has to be literally "physically strong" to participate. Many participants actually pump weights to supplement their training. It's not a coincidence that the Kyokushin guys are a little "beefy" as a result. That being said, it's not for everyone. IMO, it's probably easier to start with another style to get proper beginning instructions. Then as you get your basics down, you can move into Kyokushin.BTW, they don't use pads. You get a mouth piece and a cup as protection.
