GKR dojos have a VERY bad reputation, and as an organisation a lot of their behaviour is immoral.

Yes Guird, that's the most common feedback I get about GKR

Find a school that trains for self defense with a level of contact appropriate for learning combat sports. The style isn't as important as the training method.

I agree with the advice of MasterPain. It's so much the style, as the approach and aim of training that needs to be looked at. Two schools within the same style, may have totally different approaches. It's down to the individual school and instructor, so you need to check them out - phone calls and web sites are of limited value in this. Visit the club, that's my advice. Good luck.

If you believe in an ideal. You don't own it ; it owns you.

Yeah...well...the opening segment alone, of the video you've provided, would be enough for me to say...thanks, but no thanks.

A picture, in this case a video, is worth a thousand "words".

Really!!??

Rory Miller is a world renowned Confict Management / Self Protection expert.

What he teaches doesn't always sit well with Martial Artists as he tells it like it is.

Martial Art doesn't equeal Self Defense. Fighting doesn't equal Self Defense.

thanks MasterPain, i will try to find one. It will be hard as I have only 2 schools around my home (GKR and Chitō-ryū) ...

Whatever you do, choose the latter. Seriously.
