CredoTe Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 even though i haven't learnt any of the kata, i just watched them on youtube (thank god for youtube!!!) and nidan is pretty coolYeah, shodan/nidan has some pretty good fighting aspects to it (shodan in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu based styles is nidan in Shotokan I believe)... Remember the Tii!In Life and Death, there is no tap-out...
Kusotare Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (shodan in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu based styles is nidan in Shotokan I believe)...You are correct. Funakoshi Gichin adjusted the nomenclature of the pinan kata reversing Nidan and Shodan.K. Usque ad mortem bibendum!

sensei8 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Try to make the changes now and many will turn in their graves; some literally and some figuratively...if you get my meaning. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Ulubis Minor Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Mine would be Pinan Shodan. It may be the most basic, but it has the best principals. It teaches the main stances, how to move, turning, hard to soft, soft to hard, bunkai is actually rather neat, it teaches take downs, blocks, punches, and is simple. "There are two rules for being successful in Martial Arts.Rule 1: Never tell others everything you know."
DoctorQui Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Yondan! It was the Kata I was most afraid of and took the longest to get right and now I'm in love with it, such a dynamic kata.
