Agreed. While it's possible an experienced MA may have a better go at learning from a book than a newbie, s/he still won't get the full training needed to progress.

Yes. I got some nice ideas. but not enough to build into anything I would call a style. The book just simply can't carry enough information.

I have an impressive collection of books from 30+ years of martial arts. Much like JusticeZero, I have gotten good ideas, and many things that I have tried. But unless it was something that was really close to what I already could do, I needed more information/feedback to make it work well.
