KARATEKA911 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 can a person trained in one martial art ( black belt ) learn another just from books ?

sensei8 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 No!! Still need feedback and the like from a qualified instructor. **Proof is on the floor!!!
CredoTe Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 No. And from:No!! Still need feedback and the like from a qualified instructor. Agreed. While it's possible an experienced MA may have a better go at learning from a book than a newbie, s/he still won't get the full training needed to progress. Nidan Melbourne Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 No you should be training with someone who can give you feedback and instruct you properly

KARATEKA911 Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 is anyone here speaking from experience ? has any of you picked up a book and try to learn from it ?
JusticeZero Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yes. I got some nice ideas. but not enough to build into anything I would call a style. The book just simply can't carry enough information. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
danbong Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I have an impressive collection of books from 30+ years of martial arts. Much like JusticeZero, I have gotten good ideas, and many things that I have tried. But unless it was something that was really close to what I already could do, I needed more information/feedback to make it work well. ichi-go ichi-e 一期一会one encounter, one chance
