Martial arts and you: What and the why? Whats your story?

Recommended Posts

I was 5 and was sick one night and went downstairs in the middle of the night and found my Dad watching an old Jet Li Film (the legend of fong sai yuk). He let me stay up and watch it with him and that planted the seed and at age 19 i played Tekken one too many times and decided to something about it and took up Taekwondoe. Since then ive switched to Shotokan Karate and then Kyokushinkai Karate and im going for Black Belt in August.

I LOOOOOVE FongSaiYuk. Probably my favorite Jet Li cult MA film (the second one just does not match up though!).

Best of luck with your Shodan test. Hope the kumite part goes in your favour.

Osu.

I originally joined because I thought I would eventually be able to shoot a Kamehameha wave or a flying bicycle kick like Liu Kang.

Granted these were highly improbable, but I found out that I joined strictly for the intent of wanting to hurt others that bothered me or hurt me. I realized this well into my 3rd rank and wasn't sure of how I wanted to handle this (keep the same thought process or change it). I have struggled with this up until a few ranks away from my black belt. Now I feel that I train for more perserverence and to be able to keep cool in rough situations.

Keep practicing and train hard.
