Your talking about the oxidative energy system, and yes you can train it using weights. You want to stick to 8-12 reps as too much more with any weight on it most people can not handle and still see muscle development. What you need to do is do more than one exercise! Use a circuit of a number of exercises moving from one to another with minimal rest between exercises.
