darksoul Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Quick update... 3 weeks after the break I went to the doctor. The toe is indeed broken and quite well. There are in fact 3 fractures in a single bone but everything is in the right spot. Tournament this fall is out. I see side blade and heel kicks in my future.Kicking with the toes is ALWAYS bad You should be ok if you avoid instep kicks.Which association are you with by the way? Dobbersky Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've broken my toes a few times over the years.I got used to the feeling, and get on with it. They don't usually do anything really with toes and fingers.Interesting thread "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." Noela Evans (author)

More to do with age and my toes don't bend back as far as they once did.I'd love to see more information for older students (40+) on how to safely participate in the martial arts. Does that exist?
JusticeZero Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I know the 70something woman who used to practice in the class opposite side of town from me had to be careful about technique, focus on moving slower but more technically correct, and avoid the small number of movements they couldnt do safely. Kicking with the ball of the foot is likely going to be one of those for you; telk your teacher you just cannot do anything to break it again and start using the shin instead. I'm with JusticeZero on what you can do to avoid another break - see if you can work the technique more slowly, or try to avoid the ball kicks. Shodan - Shaolin Kempo███████████████▌█
JonWal Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I'm 2 months into my Karate training and managed to break a toe already. My own fault as it happenned rushing my squat thrusts. Taped up and off I went luckily. Not much else that can be done. Stubbornly refusing to miss training though! Wado
