MasterPain Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 So we understand a little better, for the 14 3 minute rounds for 3rd dan, how many fighters of what grade? How long between rounds? Are they trying to put they guy down or trying to push him to his limits? What do you do when the testing student drops someone 30 seconds into the round? Call it a round or throw someone new in for the remaining time? What are the fight rules with what gear? My fists bleed death. -Akuma
Dobbersky Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 So we understand a little better, for the 14 3 minute rounds for 3rd dan, How many fighters of what grade? Fighters should be alteast 1st Dan or Black Belt and atleast enough to have a fresh Fighter for each roundHow long between rounds? "0" seconds or atleast just enough to change from one to another fighterAre they trying to put they guy down or trying to push him to his limits? Just trying to psh them to their limits, its not about knocking a guy out - there's no point what does one learn. Its about "not" giving upWhat do you do when the testing student drops someone 30 seconds into the round? Call it a round or throw someone new in for the remaining time? Good question not happened yet, I guess I would call it a roundWhat are the fight rules with what gear? Ashihara Sabaki Challenge Rules Full Contact etc, MMA gloves, Gum Shields, Groin Guards. Head Guards, Shin/Instep Guards etc are optional "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." Noela Evans (author)
MasterPain Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Seems reasonable. We have an hour for 1st dan. Switching partners every few minutes. Stand up fighting with some throws. Man, I need to get back into Shodan Shape. My fists bleed death. -Akuma
Groinstrike Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Seems reasonable. We have an hour for 1st dan. Switching partners every few minutes. Stand up fighting with some throws. Man, I need to get back into Shodan Shape.I fully expect you to be a mechanized killing machine by the time im done with training and can get back into a routine of quad-weekly beatings.
JohnnyB Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Man i wish we did that much kumite...Only in the examinations of 2nd Dan and higher they do Jiyu Kumite in my system, but only 2-3 fight that last max 3 minutes.Without any protection of course but still the small number of fights leaves much to be desired. All other lower grades from Shodan down to 5th Kyu we do Jiyu Ippon Kumite. Good for practice and training but not good for exams that should take the test requirements up a notch.

Hawkmoon Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 hmm..I will need to check the lower kyu grades but as of 4kyu and up its knockdown direction combat!1st and 2kyu are knockdown fights.Without exception each grade you are attempting requires you to demonstrate all kihon, kata and fitness levels for the past grades and so show you have retained that knowledge and have added to it with the new grade you are trying to get!Shodan is 15 full knockdown minimum. One of the shodans explained to me the other day on his grading he has 18 fights, then come the next day they were told they were to fight again, another 5 fights if I remember correctly. He added the grading was around 4-5 hours for shodan.A nidan in the club added that when he graded he had 20 fights and was tested over 6-7 hours.Kyu grades are permitted at the club level, only Hanshi performs Shodan and above gradings.(For me so far all my grading had me fight to earn that grade) “A human life gains luster and strength only when it is polished and tempered.”Sosai Masutatsu Oyama (1923 - 1994) Founder of Kyokushin Karate.
