JusticeZero Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Right. A lot of what Christian monks did and do do are meditative practices. "Quieting your mind" can also be viewed as "listening", and I doubt that any pastor can fault someone for something along the lines of "trying to calm their mind so that they can listen for the Holy Spirit". shinobitribe Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Meditation does not limit to the conventional sitting in seiza and closing your eyes. Meditation is a state of mind that can be achieved by clearing your mind and being focused on a single objective and this can be achieved through any activity. Meditation helps to clear distractions and focus on the task at hand. Have you ever been so engrossed in something that nothing distracted you, forgot everything else and focused on that one thing. Meditation is a state of mind and has no religion.... whatever religion you follow, praying is a form of meditation...
SimonAsh86 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I tend to put some "soothing" music on, stuff i never listen to any other time an just sit an concentrate on regulating my breathing. Works a treat for me.
FangPwnsAll7 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 In our dojo, our sensei usually doesn't have us meditate only for the fact that most of the students move around while in meditation instead of staying still. However, I have much more respect when I meditate. Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)
