DoctorQui Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 My current club doesn't have meditation time at all sadly but generally, I try and do a bit of meditation prior to a class, right after sparring (if possible) and after Sensei has released the class at the end. I ALWAYS meditate before grading too!I try and get at least 1 min (in other clubs it can be up to 5) kneeling, hands flat on top of legs, eyes closed and listening to my heartbeat while trying to regulate my breathing.
Dobbersky Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Meditation to me is something I don't do with My martial arts. There are loads on Meditation techniques available on the Internet and classes. I suppose its just controlling one's breathing with ones eyes closed and clearing one's mind of ALL thoughts "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." moriniuk Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 There are lots of different forms of meditation and many of them actually focus the mind on something in particular such as your breathing or even love and death. An easy way to start meditation, and these 3 methods are basically the same thing, is to focus on the breath. This is called vipasana meditation.Either say to yourself as you're breathing in, "I am breathing in" or "rising, rising, rising" or count your breath in from 1 to 6.As you're breathing out say to yourself, "I am breathing out" or "falling, falling, falling" or count from 1 to 6. https://www.bkkmuaythai.piczo.com

moriniuk Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 and i am a christian is it against my faith to meditate? If that's what you choose to believe then great. I fail to see how meditation has to be seen as a religious practice.Could you please quote the chapter and verse of where this instruction is in the bible. I'd be interested to see that. https://www.bkkmuaythai.piczo.com
moriniuk Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 and i am a christian is it against my faith to meditate?I am also a Christian...Prayer is meditation!I suppose it could be seen as that. You're focusing your mind solely on the task in hand.In the same vain, walking, making a cup of tea or cooking food can be performed as meditation.Praying is really no different to chanting a mantra. https://www.bkkmuaythai.piczo.com

When you're about to run a race, or take part on a competition or tournament or any other challenging situation, you psych yourself for it...aka meditating! In fact, my Wado Ryu club teach you to honour the 3 main religions of Japan Chintoism, Buddhism and Christianity!
evergrey Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Heh, I am not a Christian, but it was my Methodist pastor father who first taught me how to meditate. It is used in some sects of Christianity. http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
