gojudood Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 This may seem like a strange question, but figured if anyone can help with solutions, it'd be you guys!Been training about two years, but in our dojo we have somewhat old carpet in the building. It gets replaced from time to time as it wears, but I find myself slipping and sliding too much.I think this is due to my extremely dry skin, especially on my feet. I put lotion on every day, and always right before class. This seems to soften them up briefly, and I get a little better grip. Usually at some point during class they will get sweaty and grip a little better.Don't know if I'm the only one to ever have this problem, what suggestions you guys have? A different brand/type of lotion, maybe some sort of baby oil, or how about a foot wrap of some sort? (i've seen a couple competitors at tournaments with wraps of some sort before)Thanks in advance for any good ideas!!gojudood
shudokaratemomma Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I have had this problem before, too. I wish I had an answer for you. Our dojo has the rubber padded type flooring so I don't have any slipping problems unless we go to a tournament where there is carpet, which I am not used to practicing on. I know this sounds silly, but I was told to try gripping better with my toes. But I have very short toes, and this doesn't help me. I was also told to try wiping the bottom of my feet with a damp towel, but I haven't had the opportunity to try this. I am looking forward to hearing the advice others have to offer. The family that kicks together, sticks together!
