kiaikid
So I'm not sure where it came from, but it DOESN'T feel too good! I think it might be from BJJ....I have this knot in my left calf muscle, about halfway up and towards the outside. I think it might have happened when I was attempting a gift wrap and I didn't kick my bottom leg out fast enough and it got trapped under the weight of my opponent- hence the injury. Is there something I should do to help this recover? Ice or heat? I really want to keep training and working out- I can't stand not doing anything! But I don't want to seriously hurt something. I can walk on it, but going upstairs and putting pressure on it hurt. "It's not about how hard you hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."It's not the skill, it's the HEART.White Belt, June 2011. Yellow Belt, August 2011. There are those who feel that you should only use heat on muscles, I generally will use heat right after ice (20minutes for each). This contracts then opens the blood vessels and helps circulate all the fluids in the area. There are many things you can try. You can take an NSAID like motrin, gently stretch it and also try to rub it out. It may be a trigger point. Put hard pressure on it with a finger tip for around 16-19 seconds. This cuts off the blood supply and forces the fibers to relax. You can use a foam roller on it if you have one also. Rest and proper nutrition to feed the repair are the most important things. kiaikid
Haha it's a submission hold in BJJ, there might be another name for it, but that's what they call it at the dojo I go to. It's a hold you can go to if someone has mounted you, you use their own arm to choke them, then flip them over so you are in mount. You have to be able to sweep your bottom leg out fast though so you don't land on it... and... I kinda wasn't fast enough that time "It's not about how hard you hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."It's not the skill, it's the HEART.White Belt, June 2011.
