Hi,

I've had a cold for the past few days and have taken the time off training (I usually do 4 / 5 times a week).

When you guys have colds do you stop training? What do you usually do to shake the cold as quickly as possible?

There are mixed opinions on this especially in fitness literature.

Some say suck it up and train, some say you should take a break.

Literally with colds the only thing is sleep/rest. Because its a virus you can't cure it just let your body sort it out itself.

It depends how you feel, if your ill but still feel motivated to train and excited then do it. If you feel like you want to stay in bed then do that.

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

lots of water, excessive amounts of sleep, take it very easy, no stress.

While I train, I train DIFFERENTLY. instead of a bunch of strenuous movements, i go into taiji mode. Sloooow, slow movements, going through every fraction of an inch carefully to perfect form. Soft movements, feeling my way through everything, minimizing my energy burn. I never break a slight sweat on these days, but I learn a lot about structure and form.

It's harmful to train when you're ill. You should put all your efforts and strength to cure yourself firts. Otherwise there can be complications.

I also would say, no training at all. It can be fatal. Most tend to think it's nothing and usually it is! But I wouldn't take the risk.. after all what do you get out of it? You're tired, you're propably not gonna enjoy it, later you feel even worse, and it takes longer to get better. And when training With other people.. :dodgy:

As already said, the complications really are to be considered.

I've heard some say its good to sweat out a cold. I don't know if this is true or not, so don't take my advise on it. But, if you would choose to train while sick, do it solo, so as not to infect others.

I do agree that rest is probably the best way to get it through your system.

I would say sauna - Olbas oils and a week off, with a Hot Toddy or 2 during that time but not in conjunction with cold remedies

Depending on how sick I was, I'd sweat it out and drink a lot of fluids, but if sweating it out wasn't working and/or I was just more sick than I realized, I went to bed, took whatever medicine the doctor prescribed and sleep as much as I could.

Being sick; that's another one of those things that I believe that we should pay attention to. Why? Who knows us better than our own body? It's time we start listening!!
