Can you loose weight too fast, even if it is a healthy well rounded diet that you are on? I have been doing this diet for a week, I have lost five pounds, its great, but is it too much? I don't think it is cause I get plenty of food, and work out fairly in an easy pace. I like this diet. I just want to know if I should be loosing five pounds per week of the diet.... :)

It's what you put into it...

I don't know if true for everybody but when my boyfriend diets he looses very quickly in the beginning, especially the first couple of weeks, and it evens out after that. He started a well-rounded diet in January and blew through like 20 pounds in the first month, since then it's been much more moderate (I don't know exactly, maybe 4-6 pounds a month). I know all weight you loose is not simply fat, there's also retained water and different kinds of fat, I think the most recently stored goes first, maybe KickChick or somebody can offer more scientific details on that. Anyway, from my experience, I'd say you're doing fine!

That is not to much if you are not feeling tired and fatigued. You should have the opposite feeling. You should be feeling energetic and alive. Anything over 10 pounds in a week I would say you would have to look at. Most times you will lose fast on a good diet. It will narrow out though. Your body will only go so far. Dont push it to much past that. If you start loosing only 1 or 2 pounds a week dont get discouraged.

Actually I probably lose and gain 5 pounds again in one day. Weighing myself at different times of the day has proven that. It is usually water weight. I think my most acurate weight would be the one in the morning after I first wake up.

Medical authorities recommend losing no more than two pounds per week. When this is done through increased exercise and decreased calorie intake, weight loss will be due primarily to fat loss. It may be possible for some people to lose a maximum of four pounds in a week without dehydration, but muscle tissue will be lost along with the fat. It is not possible to lose weight faster than this without dehydration occurring. Losing more than 2% of one's body weight (3 pounds for a 150 pound individual) in less than 24-48 hours will result in a decrease in aerobic performance and endurance. Losing more than 5% of one's body weight (7 ½ pounds in a 150 pound individual) in less than three-four days (72-96 hours) will negatively effect power, muscle endurance, aerobic performance, muscle strength especially in the large muscle groups of the legs, and mental concentration. Such weight loss can also decrease the body's ability to cool itself. Losing more than 2% in 24-48 hours or 5% in 72-96 hours does not seem to have any negative effect on performance lasting less than thirty (30) seconds.

Rapid weight loss can also increase the chance of developing gallstones ... so for weight loss are “slow and steady" ... chances are you will put all that weight back on just as quick as you lost it!

Like I have posted before .... I don''t believe in diets ... you need to change your eating habits permanently and stick with it .... for the long term in order to achieve long term results!

Thanx Guys! This is a diet that one continues, so the healthy food intake will remain the same. I know I am not decreased in energy, so thats good.

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.

2 pounds a week.. I'm in agreement with Deby. Not only for the reasons she stated but also because losing much more will risk losing muscle mass, which martial artists should aim to keep.

And yes Hiya, you have to eat clean too. :)
