evergrey Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Herros. :}I don't have a space to practice indoors, so I go over to the local park to do my kata. (Just one, as I only know one at the moment, hah!)My tally for the day:Pinan 1 katas executed: 15 (one backwards, yeah I don't know either.)Unintended audeince members: 6 (two adults, 4 small children. I am Jack's free entertainment., heh.)Sharp sticks found with toes: 2Large sharp rocks found with arch of foot: 1Bee stings: 0 (YESSSS!)We don't have a dojo, so we always train wherever we can find a space.Am I the only person who doesn't have access to a dojo here? Anyone else have a space of time where you ended up practicing out in public?I think I've seen some people doing Tai Chi out in Berkeley before, heh.I do enjoy it most of the time. It feels kind of freeing, and I love the outdoors.I did have to hurl that rock though! Stupid rock... http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
Lupin1 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 We practice at the local boys and girl's club in their wrestling room (we're in the gym for the summer, though-- way too hot up in that wrestling room). Sometimes we have to go to our instructor's backyard, though. And if we practice outside we wear shoes. Those sticks and rocks can be dangerous.
isshinryu5toforever Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I am training solo right now. It's interesting, because you have a read a lot of theory to try to figure stuff out. I'm a 4th dan though, so I get to do stuff like that. I mostly practice in my apartment, sometimes on the roof of the apartment if I'm doing weapons. It's not about the space really, but about what you're doing and if you love it. As long as you love it, don't worry about the space. He who knows others is wise. evergrey Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Yes, very good point! I absolutely love it. :}If I'm wearing boots, I keep them on. If I'm wearing sandals, I take them off. Heh, I might rethink that. I have tough boot callouses but the arch of my foot is not calloused.I think Mas Oyama would tell me to suck it up, that dude ran around on mountainsides in the snow. heh. http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
bushido_man96 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I have trained in parks before. It can be fun, especially on those humid summer mornings. I'm not much for barefoot in the snow, though. Training outside can be fun, but I prefer to not have an audience. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
evergrey Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 I'd prefer to not have an audience either, but it's a public park, so people are free to stare. The breeze sure feels nice in the late evening. http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.

Calibrex Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Hmmmmmm! Thanks, we'll have to look into that...My university that I attended allowed for us to borrow rooms - as long as we registered with the school. Kudoki Kung-Fu and Ku Jutsu in Charlotte, NC
