Radok Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 how do you preform a hindu pushup? If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.

KickChick Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 Funny I've always known them to be "Korean" push ups ... but that is only because our instructor thought that to be more appropriate for TKD. Just the other day I got an email from Furey about 'Hindu' push ups .... "I had a Palestinian from California write me a couple months ago, who said I should take the 'Hindu' off the term as it may be insensitive. Then, of all things, he went on to say that it would be like calling something 'Jew Squats.' , since when did a Palestinian care about the Jews? That's a new one on me. Putting a country or ethnic origin on an exercise gives credit where credit is due and makes it easier to remember. ad Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 since when did a Palestinian care about the Jews? _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan Tae Kwon Do (ITF) Cardio/Fitness Kickboxing Instr. [ This Message was edited by: KickChick on 2002-07-28 12:35 ] your actually misinterpreted the idea, the hindu push ups are used as a term ecspecially in the pakistani army, where they refer to as the push ups being hindu, because they hate the push ups so much, they call them hindu push ups due to the fact that they hate hindus so much, the palestinian referred at being a jew squat because they hate jews Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
KickChick Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 ad ---- tell that one to Matt Furey. I was just quoting what he wrote in his email (not to say I believed it was correct ...) He does have a thing about politically correct people .... he despises the "term".
TKD_McGee Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Jew Squats..... bahaha... Do unto others, as they done to you.
Bitseach Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 The "Hindu" press-up looks very like part of the yoga "sun salutation" sequence - could this be how they got their name, or am I completely on the wrong track here? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bitseach Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Look, here you go, a quick cartoon demo of the sequence: http://www.yogasite.com/sunsalute.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
KickChick Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 ... actually no not really Bitsy. But if you do in reverse... Steps 8,7,6 and then 5 I guess that would be close! Follow Jacks link for the correct way to do a "hindu push up"
