Training Tips

Recommended Posts

Let's start this for those that have certain tips they can offer the rest of us for a new slant on our workouts --- be it lifting, doing crunches, pushups, etc. etc.

What works for you or have you heard of a new creative or unusual way to tackle a boring workout!

I'll start it off .... Here's one:

How many of you guys wanna get a better grip? :brow:

.... well try this -- when lifting next time, wrap a towel around the bar to strengthen your grip when you do arm curls which forces the forearm muscles to work harder, and be sure to contract those muscles tight before bringing bar down (you should see those muscles flex or 'pop' in your arm -- another variation... have one hand over and other under then switch other arm.

Great idea, Deby!

For all of those that get bored doing a certain number of pushups.

Get a stopwatch. Now do pushups as quickly as possible (with correct form) for 2 minutes and count how many you did. Take one minute break then repeat this, for a total of 4 sets. Try to break your previous record, mix it up by sometimes adding resistance with a weight on your back or by doing knuckle pushups, or increasing the working time/decreasing the rest time. I used to get a total of 186, now just a month later my total is 264.

Here's another way to strength your grip:

Get a 10lbs wieght, tie a rope around the middle opening, tie the other end in the middle of a stick 6inchs long. Grip the stick with the rope hanging from the middle. When held at shoulders height, the wieght should be rested on the floor. Roll the wieght up, and roll it back down. It works great. For the stick, I used a wooden broom stick which I got from a old lady that lives next door.

I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversations.

Yes...especially for those martial artists that practice double sword techniques. It requires tremendous wrist flexibility and strength. For certain cuts, the last two fingers of each hand grip the sword handle while the wrist snaps like a whip. To be able to perform such techniques, practitioners often develop wrist and finger strength by doing push-ups on their fingers.
