Plyometrics

My club has plyometrics incorporated into the training schedule, however i often feel like doing them everyday. How often should i do these drills?

Also, should i be doing the drills in no particular order or should it all be planned out? I have a medicine ball that i will include into the training.

Explosive power training is really only effective when the athlete is fresh. Sets should be short, stopping as soon as power diminishes and/or form breaks down. Rests between sets should allow plenty of time (eg. 2-3 minutes) for the athlete to return to full or near full strength. The athlete should only perform as many sets as can achieve maximum power. 2 or 3 sets of 3 or 4 exercises should about cover it.

Recovery between sessions is critical so nothing more frequent than every other day so, ie to answer your question, IMO 2 to 3 times a week at the most.

More than that and you're not training explosive power. Nothing wrong with that but there's no pointing pushing the string and calling it progress.

Power endurance, mostly, which is not bad in itself but more effectively done with greater loads for longer sets than what is best for explosive power training.

I'd agree, don't do it every day. Take at least one rest day if not more inbetween training.

Thanks for the advice both. Ill just have to fight the addiction, for awhile i was hooked on running but got shin splints. If you know any type of fitness i can do everyday let me know, besides working on technique, which i do often.

If you want to be doing stuff everyday, try doing legs one day, upper body the next, then core. Just keep swapping what you're working on. Would still advise the odd day off though.

If you want to do them everyday you can its not a problem.

Look up Pavel Tsatouline 'Grease The Groove'

Very good technique. Using it to work up to a one arm pull up and have made very good progress.

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
