5 year old black belt in India?!?!

Featured Replies

Are we to understand that what it means to be-have a black belt rank should be far beyond that of wearing one? Should it have a certain standard of age via responsibility?

I have trouble realistically imagining that a five year old can truly understand what it means to be a black belt. Some systems, mine included, have a rank called "junior black belt," that youngsters can be promoted to, then when they are of a more reasonable age, then can receive their actual black belt rank.

Shall we let people under the age of 13 drive, open bank accounts, smoke, consume alcohol, etc., as well?

You know.... plenty of kids DO do those things...

What are the differences between the actual rank, and the junior rank?

In truth, mostly the name. In practice, the rank hasn't actually been used at my school in years. We haven't had any youngsters come up for black belt in quite awhile.

Well none, really. But like I said, it hasn't been an issue one way or the other, because nobody under the age of about 15 has gotten near promotable in recent years.

Those that have though, in the past, were just given their black belt.

Does this make them responsible and those who cater to it?

Goodness no, just the opposite in fact. I was agreeing with you. :D

I didnt think you were sayiing much different. I was just adding more to your post.

If the only difference is in name only, then what harm would it do to just give a legitimate black belt rank?

Nnnnnnnooooooooooooooo! Run! Not this thread/topic...again!

:P

BTW, A junior black belt IS a legitimate black belt, but without rank; Shodan and up!

**Proof is on the floor!!!

It is about pleasing the student in order for them to stay and not letting down a sense of knowing that it isn't a authentc, adult one.
