bigpopparob2000 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I'm getting somewhat concerned with maintaining my eye sight (more for general day-to-day life than anything else, but I suppose there are applications for martial arts training). Does anyone know of any programs for improving/maintaining one's eye sight? I realize I can do an internet search and find a plethora of eye-exercise programs claiming to improve vision, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows which products are legitimate, if any. I'd rather not pay for "snake oil" or a placebo if I can help it.
Rateh Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I know my dad buys glasses that are just below what he needs and wears them for part of the day. He says it has slightly increased his vision since he started.Whether this is true or not, I have no idea. (My dad has a lot of opinions on things, that don't necessarily have any bases in fact). Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. - Nido Qubein
joesteph Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I don't know your age, but breaking up your handle, it may be that you're likely in middle age. Presbyopia, which essentially means the natural lens is losing its elasticity due to age, is something that drops and eye exercises don't affect. My eyesight is terrible, and it's been terrible since my twenties. Eyeglasses never gave me the crystal clear vision that hard contact lenses did, and after I wore hard for two decades, I switched to rigid (between "hard" and "soft") contacts to deal with both presbyopia (rigid allows more air to hit the natural lens than hard) and astigmatism. No one but my eye doctor knows how bad my vision really is, because I've worn contacts for most of my life. I don't know if you wear glasses--or contacts for that matter--but contact lenses not only slow down (not eliminate) ongoing eyesight weakness, they're superior to eyeglasses because the contact lens covers all of the natural lens, meaning there are no "blind spots" when it comes to peripheral vision and the fact that glasses don't include the peripheral edges.Have you ever been examined by an ophthalmologist? Taken a field vision test? A specialist can give you scientific results and intelligent answers. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu

Jay Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 There was a guy I think his surname was bates in the 1930's that apparently had a method. The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
