blood talon Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 i wanted to know if anyone here uses their stance in real life situations. and if u do, i wanted to know which stance is the best to use Patrick gubek
G95champ Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 I spar in a cat stance a lot. Im a football coach and when I hold bags for my guys sometimes I get in a front stance. That is real life. LOL (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Bon Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 I'd use the stance I spar with, otherwise why use a stance in sparring if you're not going to use it in a fight ? It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
monkeygirl Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 Actually, using a real fighting stance in a street fight may not be the best idea. In my school, we teach that if you get in a confrontation, you should keep your hands open and near your face, and be on the defensive. Otherwise, to the onlooker, YOU look like the agressor. Any strikes that need to be done can be done with an open hand. Palm strikes, for instance, are actually better in some cases than punches. This method is supposed to allow you to defend yourself and avoid a lawsuit later It sounds kind of complicated, but it's a nice thought. 1st dan & Asst. Pacificshore Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 I have always taught and was taught to stand naturally and to be able to defend from that position. With the exception of sparring and kata practice, we defend from the natural stance. Like monkeygirl said, keep your hands up by your face so as to defend or strike from that position. Even if you have to take a step back or are pushed back, you just blade into a natural stance versus dropping into a fighting stance. That way you give away less and retain more of the element of surprise. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
-- Posted July 3, 2002 Posted July 3, 2002 Most people defend from an upright position. After enough training, though, you will probably find it better to defend from a lower, more solid stance, like a Shotokan back stance. Stances are there so you can fight with 'em. The question is how well YOU can use them, not how good the stance is. d-----
G95champ Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 Don't know the rules arround the world but in the USA according to my friend who is a black belt and WV State Trooper anytime a person assume a Martial Arts stance a cop has the right to shoot them. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Blade13 Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 WHAT!?! They tell the GA troopers (my mom is one) not to shoot unless they have a weapon and their life is in danger. Heck, they arent even allowed to do a lot of damage when they fight back. I couldn't be a cop. Ugh. Anyway, my stance depends on the person I'm fighting. I dont know how to explain it. _________________ Just as the rose that symbolizes it, love can be beautiful, but you will eventually be pricked by a thorn.-ME RIP De De Ramone [ This Message was edited by: Blade13 on 2002-07-04 02:58 ]
