wat is a good diet for a potential mma fighter i like to spar, run and lift wieghts. wat are good types of food? and are supplements bad for your body esp your liver, kidneys, etc. also i like to run alot but the weather is cold like under 25 degree farienthit is running in the cold bad for me? does eating healthly really make a difference on your workout results?

I've always believed in going the natural route instead of supplements unless you have some sort of severe vitamin or mineral deficiency in your body. Some people believe in and use supplements, but I'm not one of those people - again - unless the body has a deficiency.

Yes, what you eat does matter. If you're always eating fast foods, like McDonald's, Burger King, pizza, etc., you're not putting healthy fuel into your body. I'm always amazed at how many kids eat that stuff. I know it tastes good and once in a blue moon is ok, I guess, but there are people who make a regular diet of this stuff and it's just not healthy.

Everyone's caloric needs varies too. That being said, I am not a dietician and I am not a doctor but from what I've learned and read over the years and from what my own doctors tell me, you should eat things from every food group unless you are diabetic, or have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. I found that when I eat healthy and stay away from the "wrong" foods, I feel better, have more endurance and overall just feel good.

Foods with protein are good for energy and muscle repair, you should also have whole grain breads, calcium, fruits and vegetables...your best bet is to get advice from your doctor or an experienced trainer who is knowledgeable in this area.

It would be good to take is a protein shake; you'll need it for muscle. An amino acid combo supplement can be added in as well.

Do you take a daily vitamin-mineral pill? They're a standard for anyone, MMA or not, but MMA will place a greater demand on your body for nutrition, and a daily multi will be a big help.

Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruits, little starch, no sugar. Organic, yes, artificial, no. Keep salts to a minimum. If you want to be hard core, follow The Zone proportions. At the least, make sure you get a balance of protein, carbogydrate, and fat with every meal.

Increase work capacity over broad time and modal domains. Intensity is key.
