H. Walker who made his fame at UGA in college and withe the Cowboys and Vikings in the NFL before ending his playing days in Philly. Never lifted a weight.

His workout was this.

1000 set ups

1000 push ups

Ran 5 miles

Did a 2 hr TKD workout

(6 days a week)

Its amzing in this age of weights and fancy equipment a guy can be as good as he was but doing it the old way.

G95champ, weights are not 'fancy', they are more effective and efficient. It's called technology, technology rules and it's impossible to stop the growth of technology.

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

Nothing wrong with being advanced but you always need to know the old ways of doing things. My point was that you can reach greatness without the use of technology. They are many more ways to get stronger than bench press. Ever meet a Logger. LOL...

I would you say technology is power.

They say power Corrupts and absolute power Corrupts absolutely.

Robert Oppenheimer helped develope a technology that could destroy a city. (Atomic Bomb) Don't know if technology is such a great thing or not.

Bottom line as great as technology is there is always another way to do things. It may be harder it may not. It may be cheaper it may not. However when we confine ourselves to one method we limit our ability to grow and develope.

Technology is the future..

The atomic bomb can be used to cause destruction, okay. But, why is that ? It's man's greed that puts technology to 'evil' work.

Let's take the atomic theory for example. How many people know what it is, or know it in great depth ? I, unfortunately don't know it in great detail yet as I haven't studied matematics advanced enough to do so. But, one theory out of the millions that exist is what allows you and I to communicate on the internet. Would you say technology is not good ?

If man wants to do harm, he will always do it. In fact, your example only helps to prove my point. Why did man invent the atomic bomb ? Man invented the atomic bomb with technology because it is more efficient, more productive opposed to machine guns. Why would I want to get 1000 troops and hand them machine guns in the hope of wiping out a city when I can have one man drop an atomic bomb which will wipe out an entire city ? This is providing I want to wipe out a whole city for whatever reason that may be. By the same token, why would I want to waste time that I can use doing other things, allowing me to grow in other areas of life, not just one area and have a greater balance of development ?

Good lord. Weights are too high tech? Lifting heavy chunks of metal? Is it OK if I lift rocks (I'm not just being sarcastic, I really do lift rocks and I like it.)

There are attributes you can develop better by doing very high numbers of bodyweight exercises than with lower reps at higher weights. However, to do those exercises because weights are too high tech or not spiritual enough is ridiculous.

High numbers of bodyweight exercises can be good for endurance, balance, focus, etc. "Dinosaur training" with irregular objects like stones, barrels, logs and chains can be wonderful for developing functional strength, support muscle, and for grip strength. Those are valid reasons to use them. Being a Luddite is not.
