Well, the nasty drinking pee comments aside, swimming is probably one of the best exercises there are. Swimming laps is a killer on me. It can develop great cardio and some strength, too. It normally gets the whole body involved, so its a good total workout.

So would you say its more beneficial to swim for an hour than to do cardio for an hour and lift minor weights for an hour?

Well, swimming for an hour is doing cardio for an hour. As for the weights, you can still get the benefit from weight training for power. I'd say do weights one day, and swimming the other.
