tallgeese Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I've seen several of these types of procedures and by and large they work very well. Bear in mind that the better the physician, the more apt you are to getting the best work done and the most accurate diagnosis for the need for surgery.Have an orthopedic surgon do it. I know podatrist are doing more of these types of things lately but you can't been an othro for cutting. I'd never go another way for this sort of thing. The procedures themselves work well, but you're gonna be out for a while. The bone is actually cut and re-aligned in signifigant cases, this takes a while to safely recoup from. Figure at least six months before you'll be making contact at your currnet level. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
bushido_man96 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I wish you well and a quick recovery. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
psands Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I have had a bunionectomy (and associated surgery) on one foot. I wear prescription orthotics in my shoes and sandals now in order to put off a probable second surgery on my other foot.I don't wear shoes in training, unless outside. I can get by barefoot on the mats, and prefer the feel of contact on the ground. The recommendation to use an orthopedic -- sports oriented! -- surgeon is a good one, I think. Even with a good surgeon and relatively healthy body, it takes WEEKS to recover. In my case, I had a pin inserted through the big toe and most of the length of the foot to aid in recovery. I BENT the pin because I tried doing handstand pushups before the pin came out and came down on the pin ... DON'T do that!Pluses: no more significant pain in the problem foot. Can run, practice martial arts, lift weights, walk for miles.Minuses: some loss of mobility in the foot, lifetime requirement of orthotics, etc.Look into _Healthy Martial Arts_ by Dr. Jolie Bookspan. She advocates foot-strengthening rather than orthotics and surgery. ...
