Our basics move up and down the floor, so they are a lot like what I would call a floor drill, too. We do three sets of hand techniques, and then we get into kicks, and then combinations.

The nice thing about the way our basics are set up is that, even though they get monotonous, the way that we do them (like knife hand strike in back stance) is usually the way they show up in the forms. Therefore, good basics translates to good forms.

Like someone else said, it can vary from class to class. But we believe since all karate starts at the kihon level they are practiced as much as possible.

We do them with weights, go up and down the floor, with partners. If its adult night, those of us practicing sai and tonfa will use them intergrated into the drills.

With the kids we usually try to have fun and not make them think they are actually practicing there basics cause of the monotonous of them all.

Our Class we do a warm up. Then we line up according to rank kneel and bow. Then we do the basics. Going up and down the Dojo doing Basic Kicks/Blocks/Punches. Sometimes we do Kihon Kata as a whole class. Then we are broken off into our Ranks and we work on our various lessons.

The only difference between the possible and the impossible is one's will.
