Merciless
As the title suggests, do you have any? Myself, I have undifferentiated schizophrenia (considering it to be DID, although that's been stopped as an idea). I also have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Happily, I'm in therapy and have various medications, although the medication for schizophrenia doesn't seem to be working without giving terrible side-effects. Anyways, so who else has any? Know anyone who does?
Rateh
I have bipolar disorder and ocpd. My whole family seems to have something or other. My bipolar disorder includes high levels of anxiety and depression, and low levels of mania. I was having a real rough time of it this last summer, but I'm doing very well at the moment on my medications. I actually first had symptoms when I started college, came into it with a 3.8 gpa, ended up dropping out with like a 1.5 during the second semester to get myself stabalized. I had a scholarship that I lost because of it, and now I can't afford to go to school like I want to. Even if I got a scholarship or government money or something, that would only pay for classes, not living expences. I couldn't work and go to school full time, it would throw me way out of whack and I'd end up like I was this last summer. And theres no way I could get by without a job, especially one that has medical insurance, because without insurance my medicine is $900 a month. So basically I'm kinda at a dead end, I found a place I can go to in the fall that isn't too expencive and I can get a certification for medical transcription in a year long program, then I can make some more money. I wish I could go to school and get a degree though, I love taking classes and learning new things. But everyone has their own problems, not like I'm worse off then the next guy, I just have different ones than most people. My instructor knows about it. Because well I started training at the school I'm at now during this last summer. The school was the only place where I really felt at peace. But one day I just broke down crying in the middle of class, so of course I told my instructor, black belts just aren't supposed to do that, cry in the middle of forms because they weren't meeting up to their own expectations. She told me that she thinks most everyone who excells in martial arts has some sort of issue, that were all a little crazy or we wouldn't be doing it. Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. - Nido Qubein
Shotokan-kez
I suffer with a severe anxiety disorder and depression, i also used to drink alcohol a lot. I have to say the attacks are not as often now and i cope very well with them. At times when i had an attack i would think i was dying and had an overwhelming feeling that i had to run and get away. I was on meds for 10 years on and off and then one day i just decided i didn't want them anymore and came off them cold turkey. The withdrawals were unpleasant but it was worth it in the end. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
NewEnglands_KyoSa
I have been very fortunate and only have mild Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD) and it doesn't really affect my life too much. Only when im out at resturants i put the sugar packets in order, that usually sufficiently bugs whoever im with but it's not too bad at all.But i have many students who aren't as fortunate and have a vast array of disorders. Merciless
Rateh, I know saying that it must be horrible probably doesn't even describe half of it but I'll say it anyways: that must be horrible. Medications can become quite expensive. I'm on several meds and in therapies, however, I still live with my parents (18 yrs old), so they have an amazing drug plan that covers almost all of it. I'm unsure about getting a job because, in the past, I've never been able to successfully hold it. Shotokan-kez, that is good you're no longer drinking, or at least not as much. The side-effects of meds can sometimes be downright awful, as well as the withdrawl symptoms. Anti-anxiety medications tend to have significant withdrawl effects and can be addicting. NewEnglands_KyoSa, is it only for sugar packets? One of my friends has OCD, although his isn't severe, it's enough to sometimes make him irritating. We're both at university, and so when he drives there (I take buses and trains or he drives me also because my driving tends to always get me speeding tickets), he'll check, re-check and keep on doing that about 7 times to his car before he'll leave to go to class. Such as, he'll constantly reognazine everything in the car to re-checking the tire pressure. As a result, he has to be on campus quite early or else he may miss lectures, as he has done in the past. But yes, I do think everyone has their own problems.
NewEnglands_KyoSa
Hey Merciles:No its not just sugar packets but that's just an example of the things i do. I tend to organize many things especially my car, like your friend. And yes, i know i do get irritating to other people...i actually had a sugar packet incident where my friend got sick of me paying more attention to the sugar packets than her and she kinda threw them accross the resturant...she apologized and picked them up after she sent me into a panick. i have to-do lists everyday or else i can hardly get things done. i clean my car constantly and reorganize things like its my job. i just can't believe how it would be to have severe OCD because im only mild.
