Throwdown0850 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 So I was watching the Black Belt class today and my Kenpo instructor had PSI meter thing hooked up to a heavy bag and they were all punching it and kicking it.. so when the class was done he noticed that a watched the whole class and he let me do it.. I punched it and it read out 796?? and he looked rather surprised, I didnt say anything cause I dont know how much 796 PSI is? is that a lot? I did a reverse punch.. I didnt kick it.. but I was wondering if you guys have ever done this and how to read it.. like is 796 PSI strong or weak? Throwdown0850 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 He let me bring it home, and I hit a 815 with a reverse Punch.. You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent. -Henri Ducard
bushido_man96 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I have never had any experience with one of these, but I think it would be cool to try, just to see where you are at.I think that there have been studies done on things like this, and if you try looking some online research journals or databases that specialize in sports or kinesiology, you may be able to find some numbers and averages on them.Hitting at 800+ pounds per square inch sounds like you are doing quite a bit of damage, though! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
NewEnglands_KyoSa Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 it just simply means you are hitting with 800 pounds of force per square inch, i believe that is above the average which is 500-600 i think? i cannot remember... "Smile. Show everyone that today you're stronger than you were yesterday."
DWx Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 We have a similar thing at our club.. I'm not quite sure what units it measures in, whether it's PSI or whatever but 800 is pretty impressive. Just to put that in context, I think a standard fire hose (like on a fire engine) usually exerts up to 300 psi. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
Jay Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I think that is pretty good I have been searching to find something to compare it to but I have not found anything decent. The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
Ace2021 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I actually hit one of these over the weekend after seeing NBD. 741 was my highest out of 3 hits. A New Age Dawns
Jay Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 To the guys that have done it I would be interested in what you body weight is if you dont mind? The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

NightOwl Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 woah- where do you get one of those things? I am assuming that it is one made specifically for recording hitting power? The thing that I have always wanted to play around with were crash test dummies and ballistics gel...I watch too much Mythbusters Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt
